British Paras 1st platoon

All painting on this project has now finished, figures are all based and bases completed. Some are photographed and the rest will be done over the next couple of glorious days.

First up are a few pictures of the 1st platoon. Pictures are poor but I'm hoping to take some better ones tomorrow in natural light.

The complete platoon of 12 bases, including platoon commander, a light mortar and a PIAT along with

3x rifles

3 x stens

And 3x Brens.

There are another two platoons (of the same composition) , a MMG platoon, a medium mortar platoon and an engineer platoon along with the 6pdrs and tows.

Take care all.

Starting a new project.

And to start off this new project we have the following pictures of British infantry marching (cbr1) from Baccus. Colonial range.

April fools - i did enjoy painting these even though they were hard work. I had a go over Christmas to see how they would be to paint up. I don't think this is a scale i will go with but saying that Baccus's new ECW range look very tempting.

Thanks for dropping by.

Airborne 6 pdr gun

I think it's finally dawned on me why I'm spending less time on my blog (though painting time is still about the same) and the answer is forge of empires. I need to cut back on that and refocus my attention. Easier said than done.

The 6 pdr (57mm) was first used in 1942 and was used into the 50's. The airborne version had a modified carriage.
PeterPig do a nice model in their WW2 range. I've painted 3 with crew and a tow for each as support for my Para force.

Next up should be the first of 3 platoons.

Take care all.

Finally some pics of painted figures.

A day off today looking after sickly older boy so took a few pictures of some of the completed PeterPig British paras. It's taken me all day to get around to this point. And i don't know what I've done with the rest of the day ( though i did have an hour's kip in the afternoon).

First up is the company commanders base. This should be on a 4x4 base (for PBI) but I've gone with a round one so i could fit the jeep on as well.

We now have two bases of medics, one with attached priest. I made the fence from a coffee stirer and a piece of a cocktail stick just to give the base a little extra.

Finally some drop canisters.

I had a number of issues with greying when varnishing. I used both aerosol and a pot of cote D'arms with both causing problems.

Thanks for dropping by.

Spring tomorrow and the Flashing Blade.

Two months have gone by since my last post. I haven't been idle but not as busy as i should have been. My 15mm PeterPig paras are nearly complete just the bases to do. These should appearing over the next month.

Whilst painting I've been watching "The Flashing Blade".

As a youngster this was aired every summer holiday on TV. It was the swashbuckling adventures of the daring Chevalier de Recci. Great flamboyant acting from Robert Etcheverry in the staring role. The dubbing on the first eleven episodes was ok but the final episode was left in French but with English subtitles.
Would recommend this for a fun bit of entertainment whilst painting.

Hope to have some painted troops next time.

Tally ho for now.

Last post for 2016

So another year comes to a close and another final post is typed.

I trust you had a very merry christmas and I wish you all a happy new year with many a great game to play and win.

I had these pics for a few weeks and thought I'd post them tonight to end this project on the last day of the year.

This is pack 65. Supply Wagon from PeterPig's Wildwest range.

I bought this pack earlier in the year but when I came to paint it I found the driver was missing, not sure if i' d misspkaced it or it was missing from the pack when I got it. I placed a spare foot trooper on the base.

In the background you can see a mass of 15mm Paras. This is the first batch of the next project. This batch and the next are now completed apart from basing and the 3rd batch is underway. Hope to have some pictures up in the new year.

Anyway
 HAPPY NEW YEAR

Plastic Soldier's M4A4

I have  been busy painting over the last few weeks, as and when I can. The PeterPig cavalry supply wagon is complete with just a photo or two to take and that's that project put to bed again until later next year.
The British Paras are well under way and I hope to be able to put some pictures of progress on here soon.

But by way of a change (and because of child care duties) I needed something to do inside in bad light.  I picked up a couple of boxes of Plastic Soldier's Sherman's to have a look at and decided to have a go at set Ww2v15011 Allied Sherman M4A4 and Firefly tank.

The set contains 5 sprues to make up 5 Sherman's,  these can either be made up as M4A4 (dry) or Firefly.

On taking the sprues out of the box the detail looked good and the amount of parts for each tank was not too great (even more so when consider there are some unique parts for each version).

The instructions for PSC kits leave a lot to be desired but that have got better over the years and this kit is only a couple of years old.
I found the first section - Wheel sub assembly very fiddly and a few dry runs on each side was necessary.

Anyway the it went together well and here's a finished example.

Four more to make up and I'll probably make up 3 of the standard M4A4 and another Firefly. Painting can wait until all are constructed.

Sizewise it does seem to be on the small size so I need to compare it with the PeterPig Sherman I have and get back.

Thanks for dropping by.
