Cattlemen characters and a freebie figure.

Just a quick post to show I'm still about and painting. 

The Cattlemen are completed just need me to take some pictures and I'm progressing with two new projects and hope to have a few elements of both completed and photographed in early may.  Though I think my idea of starting two projects simultaneously was a bit misguided.

Chuck Wagon

The weather's turned wet and horrible since Monday but luckily I did manage to take a few pictures on that day.
The chuck wagon is pack 91 from PeterPigs wild west Cattlemen range. The body of the chuck wagon is resin and all other parts white metal. The model went together nicely.  Originally I was going to paint the wood part of the body in wood brown but after having a peruse on the internet I found a couple of green examples which I thought looked rather good.

More cattlemen

As I've got the week off and the sun was out I thought I'd take some pictures of some finished figures and will put up a number of posts over the coming week.

First up is petepigs Cattlemen mounted with rifles (pack 89).

The eagle eyed amoungst you will have noticed the basing has changed. When it came to basing these I decided that the sandy base that I have done for the rest of the range didn't seem right for these chaps. Cattle eat grass so bases should be more green/brown than sand.
What it does mean is that I need to go back and re-do the basing for the rest of these cattlemen. That should keep me busy.

Snow cancelled show.

I was planning to go to overlord in Abington today , my first war show of the year but yesterday I found out that the weather had taken its toll and the show was cancelled. I always enjoy it as it's a small but but friendly show where I can pick up a few bits and pieces and  spend a good half day perusing.

The next show I could well attend would have been the wmms in a couple of weeks but my two young lads are doing a walk for the cubs and Beavers and I've being been roped in to do the walk as well. 

The latest pack of cattlemen finished are pack 88 mounted cattlemen with Pistols.

The horses for both this pack and the following pack 89 were all sprayed together using Mournfang Brown from games Workshop. Different shades of washes and mixtures were applied to give a variation of colour which is not so visible in the pics.

 

Hoping to spend a couple of hours outside in the painting den today and get the next batch of cattlemen finished. Then on to a couple of wagons and a stagecoach.

It's cold out there

February has been a relatively productive month with a least an hour most evenings and a few hours over the weekends painting so a few bits have been progressing along nicely. Well until last night that is, when i went out to my painting den in the garage and froze my knackers off. The heater made no dent in the cold in the room or the cold in my body. I came in after about half an hour and promptly went to bed.  It was nice and warm in there. 

As to my painting the Cattlemen are near to completion and a few other areas are having some time spent on them. So hopefully something different next month.

This little offering are from PeterPigs  pack 87, cattlemen foot rifles.

These are all based as per Peterpigs "Hey you in the Jail" rules which are being revised and should be released in the next month or two.

Anyway keep safe in this bad weather spell.

More Cattlemen and a Plan for 2018 (well sort of)

Over the past couple of weeks I've been contemplating my plan for this year's painting. At the moment I'm definitely going to try and reduce the lead and plastic mountain.  

I'm going to continue with the 15mm wild west this year, finishing off the Indians I started in the 90's. I've also got a number buildings from the range to paint up along with a train.

Along with this on-going project I'm going to try and complete another of my projects - the 15mm Assyrians. This has been plodding on for about 6 years now but I feel if I base up the completed figures it might motivate me to finish off the army with the chariots and a few extra units.

On top of that I have a number of on going projects I would love to get on with but it will probably be some more 15mm ww2 to finish off the year.

As to new stuff - apart from a few bits for the wild west, like a train station, I'll try to keep the purchasing down to paints and accessories and a few little bits. But you know us wargamers, never say never.

Anyway to the painted stuff, i've painted up some more  PeterPig cattlemen, these are pack 86 foot pistols.  Nice figures with three different sculpts in each pack of eight figures.

I'm looking forward to the new revised and updated Hey You in the Jail rules from PeterPig. They should be out in time for Salute.

Another 2 Cattlemen Characters

I would like to say things are slowing down in the run up to Christmas but work is manic so I'm looking forward to a few days off.

The attached pictures are of another couple of character packs from Peter pig. They are pack 82 Henry T Bossman and pack 85 Mongo Larry.

The rest of the cattlemen are coming along nicely with the foot elements near completion and 40 horses nearly finished and the riders undercoated and ready to paint. Hope to have more pictures before Christmas.

15mm Cattlemen Characters

Now it's back to Peter pig's wild west figures and I'm working my way (slowly) through the Cattlemen. The first completed figures are two character packs, pack 83 Buffalo Bruce and pack 84. Old Gabby. They are nice figures with a mounted, foot and dead option in each pack.

There are another two character packs finished just need to take a pic along with two different foot groups that are both near to completion. I have also prepared 40 horses for the mounted elements. 

With separate riders and horses do people paint them separate or glue the riders on first? I always do them separately but wondered it's easier to do them together.

US Cavalry characters

 My little man cave is located in the garage. It's a 3rd of the area and it's sectioned off. Most of the year it's pleasant but as we go through autumn  out comes my  old small blower heater. It works well and quickly warms up the room. Or it did. With the temperature plummeting last night I switch it on and yes you guessed it - nothing.  Fortunately we had another old heater stashed away for just such an occasion, it works but without the blower it takes ages to warm up my cave.  I can see it being a hard winters painting!

This project is near completion - just the  supply wagon to photograph, all ready to go. Anyway here we have the two US Cavalry character packs from PeterPig.

First up is pack 61. Major Rob

Each character pack comes with three versions of the character, mounted, on foot and dead.

The next project is coming along well though as usual slow and hope to get on with it if I can stay warm!

Where's my horse?

It's been a few weeks since my last post and the whole time I've had these  figures finished and sitting on my desk. 

Again they are US Cavalry from PeterPig's Wild West range. 

Above are dismounted troopers with carbines (pack 57) and below dismounted troopers with pistols (pack 58).

Stop the Cavalry

I managed to get a few photos of the last of the mounted elements of my Peter Pig US Cavalry. 

First up is a couple of  command bases, pack 56, followed by a couple of bases of Crow Scouts mounted, pack 63.

And finally a picture of two troops of cavalry with command and Crow Scouts.

Hopefully during the week I'll have some photo's of the dismounted troops and a few character packs.

US Cavalry

The summer months have not been productive though a number of things are nearing completion. Hopefully over the next few weeks a few more bases should follow.

This group are mounted  US cavalry with carbines from Peter Pigs Western range, pack 54. I was happy with the finish until I spray varnished them and they  went a grey hue. Out came the paint brushes again.

Flypast: I was in the garden late Sunday afternoon and I heard a distinctive sound and there it was - a spitfire but that wasn't all. There was a roar of a multi engined plane coming over low and the Lancaster came right over my house. What a fantastic sight.

I'm nearly at the end of this little project - all figures are now painted and based, I just need to by some new batteries for my camera and take some pictures of two characters and then I'm done.

Mounted Mexicans

I finally had some time over the last week to finish these few bases of Peter Pigs Mexican's mounted pistols and mounted rifles.

I'm a bit dissapointed with the picture quality. The shading and highlighting doesn't have seem to have come out well (especially on the faces) in the picture but on the models it's as I wanted it. I'm not sure if it was a light problem as one of the flourescent bulbs had blown.

Lack of progress

Well it's been nearly three weeks since my last post and that's mainly down to problems with the laptop but a good blow seems to have sorted it out now.

There hasn't been to much progress on the painting front but I did manage to get some more PeterPig Mexican's painted up. This time it Mexican pistols.

I'm working on some mounted Mexican rifles and pistols at the moment and given some time hope to have them done in a week.

My latest little project is coming along nicely with the next group painted up and finished.

I have another group prepped, undercoated and ready to start on whilst listening to the football tomorrow night.

15mm Mexicans

In between builders and decorating the garage and the children I managed to fit in a little painting.

I'm working on some Peter Pig 15mm wild west Mexicans.

 I started on the villagers, both male and female, and have 5 bases ready to go lead by the lady below.



The cacti were painted 18 - 20 years ago and were Peter Pigs I think.
