Dead Man's Hand

Just finished this group of Lawmen for Dead Man's Hand. The group consists of a Sheriff, a Marshal, 4 deputies and 2 citizens.

These are lovely plastic figures from Great Escape Games plastic Gunfighter set. My only dislike is the size of the silver star but I'm sure this the best way to do it.

Gnolls 4

The painting has been a bit slow of late but this is down to my eyes. Firstly they've been getting sore, down to hayfever possibly but I've never had it before. Secondly my eyes are straining with the small figures. This is more than likely down to the type 2 diabetes. I'm due for my 6 month eye check at the hospital at the end of August but I need to get my finger out and get an eye test at an opticians for some new glasses.

The Gnolls are now finished with the final two being Reaper Bones. The models were made of a material I've not used before and really wasn't sure of how to prepare them. I trimmed off some of the mold lines with a sharp knife and tried a piece of fine wet and dry on some of the burs but gave up around some of the detail. I should have persevered as the overall look of the figures I'm happy with.

They do look a lot bigger than the other 28mm figures I've used for Frostgrave though they could easily be used for a champion/leader type figure.

Anyway that's it for the moment.

Frostgrave Gnolls 3

Here are the last eight Gnolls from the Frostgrave box. But not the last Gnolls to be painted!

And four with swords and daggers.

It's too hot tonight for the garage even with the fan on ! I might have to stay inside tonight and be sociable.  Though I could use the time to do some research on uniform colours for one of my on going projects.

Have a good evening all

Frostgrave Gnolls 2

Just a quick mid-week post. The latest batch of Gnolls (3 only)  are finished and photographed.

These 3 are a bit more protected, having shields.

And my thoughts go out to the people affected by the fire in London last night and to the emergency services for the work they did and especially the firemen and woman who entered that burning building. Hero's.

That's it from me.

Frostgrave Gnolls

This is the first batch of Gnolls finished and I've been trying to get around to  posting about these for a week. The Windsor & Newton Galleria mat varnish is nice to use, though more time consuming when brushing it on but no greying.
The Gnolls are from the Northstar plastic multi-part set and this first batch have an assortment of weapons. They went together nicely like the other sets in the series and have a range of options to build.

Am trying to think of what to do next, i've plenty of options both in the metal  and plastic mountains. Inspiration is required and I'm not off to any shows until colours in September- my first show of this year.

Thanks for taking a look.

Ironclad Miniatures steam rotocoptor

This lovely model steam rotocopter was finally finished during the week. It was based on an mdf board with a base of ready mixed filler topped off with mixed sized gravel. The dried based was sprayed with german dunkelgelb and highlighted with various mixes.

The tree trunk was in fact some sort of shell that that i pick up on the beach in the summer. I thought it would come in useful.

Sorry about the photo quality - pictures taken with the tablet.

Thanks for taking a look.

Hobbits

I bought these Games Workshop hobbits  a good 15 to 20 years ago. They were undercoated and the majority of the painting done and then something else came along and took my fancy. They were placed in a box and there they remained unloved apart from the occasional peak until a few weeks back when I was looking for something else,
The movement tray was quickly knocked up using some thick card.

Thanks for dropping by.

Barbarians for Frostgrave

OK so I lied but in my defence I had painted these Barbarians up a few weeks back and then put them on a shelf awaiting a few more  figures to varnish. And then forgot about them.

I picked up a packet of barbarians from Battlezone miniatures at last year's Warfare. They're nice figures with good detail that paint up well.

Well that's it for now on the Frostgrave front. Thanks for stopping by.

Frostgrave - Lich and Apprentice

This will be my last lot of Frostgrave figures for a while (well at least until the next gnickstarter comes out).
The Lich and his Apprentice were finished a few weeks ago but when it came to the varnishing the fronts were fine but the backs had the dreaded greying. So the backs had a repaint. And a re varnish but this time no greying.
As for the Death figure I don't recall where this fine figure came from but I've taken quite a liking to him. Thinking about it it might be from TSR.

As usual thanks for taking time to stop by.

Onwards and upwards.

Frostgrave treasure

I finished this load of treasure off last weekend but have only just got round to posting a pic or 3.

These were purchased at Colours last year but made it on to my paint desk a couple of weeks ago. They are from Ainsty Castings and were in a pack called treasure piles, 6 Radom pieces for a fiver.

Thanks for dropping bye

Frostgrave zombies

Just a quick post to show some Zombies I've painted recently. They came as part of the nickstarter and if I remember rightly they were from mantic games. Nice models with good detail.

As for the painting you will see that they have different shades of skin. This was down to not having painted Zombies before and a little bit of experimenting with the washes. The one on the bottom right had a vellejo flat flesh with a mixed games workshop wash of red and nuln oil black. The other two had a cote d'arms flesh and a mixed wash of drakenhof nightshade and bel-ta green. One more green the other more blue.

I enjoyed painting these so I might have to get in to the Zombie scene !

Thanks for taking a look.

Frostgrave beasts

Just realised I've not blogged in April yet and even though I had a 50th and my son's 8th to celebrate I've managed a few bits of painting.
Today's offering are a couple of snow trolls and some old games workshop snow cats from my lead mountain.

The snow trolls were washed with games workshop sepia but I was happier with the grey wash I used  on the snow cats. I remember that next time I'm painting white.

Right back to the paint desk had an issue with a new can of matt spray varnish and the backs of 2 Frostgrave figures. Now grey !

Thanks for stopping by.

Frostgrave odds

I managed to finish these two figures in amongst the house painting. They are both Northstar figures, the first is either a knight or Templar and the other a frost wraith. Nice figures with little flash or mold lines and they painted up well.

Sorry about the picture quality and thanks for dropping by.

Frostgrave ghoules

Just finished these mantic ghoules which came with the previous posts skeletons.  These were nice figures to paint up and came with less mould lines. Have a look at wargamer girls blog as she has just about completed 16 of these and they're looking good.

I've a week of now but the boss has other type of painting in mind - undercoating, gloss and emulsion. Walls and ceiling and woodwork !

Take care all.

Undead

I've been having a few problems with blogger and have not been able to read my usual posts. I think it's down 2 dashboard opening up in Google. I can't scroll down the list of everyone's post and can only read one or two post visible on the screen. Not sure how to get around this but if you have any ideas I'll be really grateful.

Anyway for this weekends blog I have some undead figures which came as a freebie with the Lich Lord Kickstarter. They are mantic figures that painted up nicely though there are a lot of mould Lines on these figures.

Apologies for not commenting on your blogsbut I hope this will sort itself out soon.

Frostgrave Wizard & Barbarian

I found this old freebie GW plastic wizard and the TSR barbarian in my bits and bobs pile and thought they'd be ideal for Frostgrave.
The wizard come up really well and I'm happy I found him. The Barbarian was part of a TSR box set of adventurers. I think there were 12 figures in the set, I found two which I've painted up and wish I could find the rest as I'm sure there were a few other figures that would do for Frostgrave. Oh well I'll keep looking.

Thanks for stopping by.
