Paint your wagon.

I was born under one wandering star. 

Lee Marvin gave the idea to paint my wagon a different colour to plain brown and a quick look on Google showed me a few examples of blue wagons.

The blue is PeterPigs pack 92 settlers wagon, recently bought and the brown is peterPigs pack 65 supply wagon, though this was bought and painted more than 20 years ago.

The supply wagon was touched up and a wash or two applied and then debased.

Hopefully I will have a couple of pictures tomorrow of the stagecoach.

Cattlemen characters and a freebie figure.

Just a quick post to show I'm still about and painting. 

The Cattlemen are completed just need me to take some pictures and I'm progressing with two new projects and hope to have a few elements of both completed and photographed in early may.  Though I think my idea of starting two projects simultaneously was a bit misguided.

Chuck Wagon

The weather's turned wet and horrible since Monday but luckily I did manage to take a few pictures on that day.
The chuck wagon is pack 91 from PeterPigs wild west Cattlemen range. The body of the chuck wagon is resin and all other parts white metal. The model went together nicely.  Originally I was going to paint the wood part of the body in wood brown but after having a peruse on the internet I found a couple of green examples which I thought looked rather good.

More cattlemen

As I've got the week off and the sun was out I thought I'd take some pictures of some finished figures and will put up a number of posts over the coming week.

First up is petepigs Cattlemen mounted with rifles (pack 89).

The eagle eyed amoungst you will have noticed the basing has changed. When it came to basing these I decided that the sandy base that I have done for the rest of the range didn't seem right for these chaps. Cattle eat grass so bases should be more green/brown than sand.
What it does mean is that I need to go back and re-do the basing for the rest of these cattlemen. That should keep me busy.

Snow cancelled show.

I was planning to go to overlord in Abington today , my first war show of the year but yesterday I found out that the weather had taken its toll and the show was cancelled. I always enjoy it as it's a small but but friendly show where I can pick up a few bits and pieces and  spend a good half day perusing.

The next show I could well attend would have been the wmms in a couple of weeks but my two young lads are doing a walk for the cubs and Beavers and I've being been roped in to do the walk as well. 

The latest pack of cattlemen finished are pack 88 mounted cattlemen with Pistols.

The horses for both this pack and the following pack 89 were all sprayed together using Mournfang Brown from games Workshop. Different shades of washes and mixtures were applied to give a variation of colour which is not so visible in the pics.

 

Hoping to spend a couple of hours outside in the painting den today and get the next batch of cattlemen finished. Then on to a couple of wagons and a stagecoach.

It's cold out there

February has been a relatively productive month with a least an hour most evenings and a few hours over the weekends painting so a few bits have been progressing along nicely. Well until last night that is, when i went out to my painting den in the garage and froze my knackers off. The heater made no dent in the cold in the room or the cold in my body. I came in after about half an hour and promptly went to bed.  It was nice and warm in there. 

As to my painting the Cattlemen are near to completion and a few other areas are having some time spent on them. So hopefully something different next month.

This little offering are from PeterPigs  pack 87, cattlemen foot rifles.

These are all based as per Peterpigs "Hey you in the Jail" rules which are being revised and should be released in the next month or two.

Anyway keep safe in this bad weather spell.

More Cattlemen and a Plan for 2018 (well sort of)

Over the past couple of weeks I've been contemplating my plan for this year's painting. At the moment I'm definitely going to try and reduce the lead and plastic mountain.  

I'm going to continue with the 15mm wild west this year, finishing off the Indians I started in the 90's. I've also got a number buildings from the range to paint up along with a train.

Along with this on-going project I'm going to try and complete another of my projects - the 15mm Assyrians. This has been plodding on for about 6 years now but I feel if I base up the completed figures it might motivate me to finish off the army with the chariots and a few extra units.

On top of that I have a number of on going projects I would love to get on with but it will probably be some more 15mm ww2 to finish off the year.

As to new stuff - apart from a few bits for the wild west, like a train station, I'll try to keep the purchasing down to paints and accessories and a few little bits. But you know us wargamers, never say never.

Anyway to the painted stuff, i've painted up some more  PeterPig cattlemen, these are pack 86 foot pistols.  Nice figures with three different sculpts in each pack of eight figures.

I'm looking forward to the new revised and updated Hey You in the Jail rules from PeterPig. They should be out in time for Salute.

Another 2 Cattlemen Characters

I would like to say things are slowing down in the run up to Christmas but work is manic so I'm looking forward to a few days off.

The attached pictures are of another couple of character packs from Peter pig. They are pack 82 Henry T Bossman and pack 85 Mongo Larry.

The rest of the cattlemen are coming along nicely with the foot elements near completion and 40 horses nearly finished and the riders undercoated and ready to paint. Hope to have more pictures before Christmas.

15mm Cattlemen Characters

Now it's back to Peter pig's wild west figures and I'm working my way (slowly) through the Cattlemen. The first completed figures are two character packs, pack 83 Buffalo Bruce and pack 84. Old Gabby. They are nice figures with a mounted, foot and dead option in each pack.

There are another two character packs finished just need to take a pic along with two different foot groups that are both near to completion. I have also prepared 40 horses for the mounted elements. 

With separate riders and horses do people paint them separate or glue the riders on first? I always do them separately but wondered it's easier to do them together.

French commander and generals.

The French commander and generals are to be the last of my bases for the French contingent of my AWI project. 

After finishing the painting  a couple of weeks ago I brushed on my preferred  Windsor and Newton's galleria mat varnish. When dried the blue jackets had a gloss sheen to them and then, in a moment of madness, I picked up an old can of mat spray varnish and sprayed them. They greyed. I wanted to bang my head against the wall. I took the can out into the garden along with my air rifle and removed the temptation from my grasp. A few touch ups and some more brush on varnish and they are suitable.

 Next up something new for one of my ongoing projects.

Royal Deux-Ponts regiment.

The latest and last French AWI regiment I think I will paint is the the Royal Deux-Ponts Regiment.

This regiment was part of the French expeditionary force sent to help the Americans in their fight for independence. The regiment took part in the fighting at Yorktown.

The figures are PeterPig and are from packs 99 French line marching and 100 French line firing. The command base was from pack 101 French command advancing with the addition of a wounded figure from pack 112 French wounded. 

I've added the next pic as the blue seems to be a lot lighter in the first pic than in the second, maybe a trick of the light.

Now on with the generals. 

French Grenadier of the Regiment Soissonnais

It's been a while since I posted same painted figures so to get this back on the road here are some pictures of my latest completed AWI French unit.

Again these are from Peter pig's AWI range and are packs104 French grenadiers marching and 105 French grenadiers command. They have been painted up as grenadiers from the regiment Scoissonnais. 

The only issue I had was with the bearskin - I couldn't figure out what to do with the back so just painted them all over black with a wash and highlight of slate grey with a brass plate at the front.

Just another regiment and a few commanders to finish off and that's the French done.

With the French almost completed where next? More AWI - British/American?  Or maybe 15mm sci-fi?

Back to the AWI

It's been nearly 2 years since I've painted up any french figures for the AWI collection. As usual these PeterPig figures were virtually flash free and only needed the file taken to the base. 

These are packs 108 French Line advancing with backpacks and a command base using 3 figures from pack 101 French command advancing with a sapeur from pack 106 French sapeurs with axes. They have been painted up as the regiment Soissonnais

The next regiment has been started and is progressing well along with the generals.

British Paras 3rd rifle plt , MMG plt, sniper and dead.

Finally getting the last pictures of this project on my blog. It's dragged on and the problems with the varnishing has put a downer on the whole thing. But onwards and upwards as the saying goes.

Anyway the 3rd rifle platoon is the same format as the previous 2.

The  mg platoon consists of  3 bases of machine guns and crew along with a rifle base and a platoon commander.

A sniper team suitably hidden.

And some para dead.

British Paras engineer plt & mortar plt.

This little project has been finished for over a month and I'm being really slow in getting these photographed and on the blog. At this rate my next project will be done and dusted before I've posted all the pics for the paras.

The rifle platoons are supported by an engineer platoon consisting of 2 flamethrower bases a Lmg (bren) base, a sten base, 2 rifles (satchel/demolition charges) and a  platoon commander.

The mortar platoon consists of 4 medium mortars, a rifle base and a platoon commander.
