I've read a number of favourable reviews and reports on On One Hour Wargames and on Friday night I was looking on Amazon and and said to the wife if we've got any money left, from all the overtime I'm doing, when we get paid could you order me one. What a girl she went on to Amazon and with her prime account ordered me one there and then. It was a bit late for the next day delivery so I was expecting it tomorrow. But this morning it was delivered.
The rules are simple and good. Coupled with the scenarios they make a great game. We play ACW, Machine Age and Rifle & Sabre. The latter is our favourite period for these.
ReplyDeleteI shall look forward to hearing what you make of this one.
ReplyDeleteThe scenarios alone are worth the modest price of the book. Awaiting your impressions.
ReplyDeleteNice early-Christmas gift! I too have recently seen nice reviews on this book - may have to get a copy myself.
ReplyDeleteSounds good enjoy the read!
ReplyDeleteI've played a few Neil Thomas games (Nineteenth Century Wargames and Napoleonic Wargaming) and they are fun and quick playing. I also have One Hour Wargames and read it a few years back, but haven't managed to get a game in. As Jonathan notes - the thirty generic scenarios that can be used for all (or, at least, most) ages are wonderful sources for inspiration.
ReplyDelete...it is without a doubt one of the best ten quids I have ever spent... I'm becoming a bit of a Neil Thomas fan-boy (as you can tell on my blog probably) and went and bought his European Wargames book as well this weekend... and I don't even play the period...! :o)
