Last post of 2015

I hope you all had a good Christmas and are recovering well if you over indulged and are ready for more of the same tonight.

In this my last post of 2015 I thought I'd share a few photo's of my latest painted Frostgrave miniatures. I've been back at work since Tuesday but have managed a couple of hours each night and have made progress on a small batch of figures, more of which will follow in the next few days.

So for tonight's offering we have FGV108 - Summoner & Apprentice standing on a piece of 4ground ruin.

I was quite happy with the finished result though the skin shading didn't have as much definition as I wanted and as usual the photo's aren't brilliant.

Thanks for taking a peek and remember to have a nice time tonight.

Happy New Year

Another Frostgrave warband

Here's my eldest boy's Frostgrave warband that I've just finished painting. The composition is virtually the same except I've replaced my crossbow with an archer. This warband has a crimson scarf/hood/bib theme for his easy identification.
I'm a lot happier with the painting of this group and the varnish finish.
Two pairs of wizards and apprentices and some treasure pieces to finish up and then we can have a trial game.

Thanks for taking a look

4Ground Fabled Realms

One of the 4Ground Fabled Realms that I picked up at warfare was made last night.
This is Ruins of Daldorr 06 and like the earlier model I made it went together well and they are both shown together in last pictures.

One more to make and hope to make a start on it tonight.

Thanks for looking in .

Warfare

I spent a few hours at Warfare on Sunday. I did a couple of circuits of the traders and had a look through the bring & buy before making a purchase. It was only after I left I'd realised I hadn't been to the second hall and looked at the games!

As for the purchases:

A couple more of 4Grounds Fabled Realms ruins, some broken columns, a pack of Frostgrave Undead, a couple of Ground Zero Games walkers for my Crusties and a pack of some Alien creatures with what looks like a shell on their backs (again from GZG).

Almost forgot a bunch of very nice 28mm barbarians, adventures and Chaos foot soldiers all from Battlezone Miniatures

Thanks for taking a look.

A parcel for me !

Over the past week I've looked at every parcel that has turned up and every time it has the wife's name on it (she's doing the kiddies x-mas pressie shopping on line).
But yesterday the box had my name on it. Inside was the Lich Lord nickstarter - £35 offer.

and for that I received the Lich Lord book, the Cultist figures, the Lich lord and apprentice, dark cauldron pack, a Templar and Frost Wraith figures and a sprue of Frostgrave soldiers.

A good buy from my first kickstarter. Along with the loot from Warfare (which I'll post tomorrow) the collection is growing - along with the unpainted mountain.

As usual thanks for dropping by.

A second helping of Frostgrave

Time was had and the models finished.

Here's the warband and an extra member. The warband consists of 1 x Thief,   4 x Thugs, 1 x Crossbowman, 1 x Infantryman & 1 x Knight. The extra figure is a Ranger. The Knight doesn't look quite how I thought he should, armour etc but he'll do for the moment.

The second warband will have a similar composition but they'll have a red collar piece/hood so my boy can identify his figures quickly (or is it for me!).

Warefare at the weekend - I should be there on Sunday spending again.

A Little bit of Frostgrave

Well no blog for over a month now and little time for painting etc.as I've been working many 12 hour days during th last couple of months. But this weekend has been a nice restful one of 4 days - with some sleep caught up on and finally some painting done as well.

I've started on a couple of warbands for Frostgrave, one for myself and one for the eldest boy so we can enjoy a game together hopwfully soon. Progress has been made and hope to have some pics later today of the first of these warbands.

As I was looking through my box of 28mm spares I found the two figures below which I thought would make a good pair for the leaders of a warbound.

The wizard in blue is from a TSR box set from 88 ish and the other is a Rincewind model from the 90's.

Thanks for dropping by

15mm AWI Artillery

A bit remiss of me as I finished of these field guns and battalion guns a few weeks ago but have only just round to getting the pictures on here and the blogger software on my android device has been playing up for the last few days.

As usual these Peter Pig figures were nice to paint up with little mold lines or flash, the only problem I encountered was when spraying the Matt varnish it greyed up heavily ( it was raining ). I painted over quite a bit of it and was reasonably happy with the result.

Thanks for taking a look.

4GROUND FABLED REALMS

At colours last weekend I picked up a RUINS OF DALDORR kit. This was the 1st woodern kit for me and was not sure how it would go together as I can be all cack handed. Well I'm happy to say the kit was a joy to build with clear instructions (in colour) and parts that went together nicely. I was even instructed on where to place clamps and pegs.
A few images of the finished ruin are attached.
So I'll be looking out for some more of this splendid range and maybe some in 15mm.

Thanks for stopping by.

Colours @ Newbury

I had a day out at the races today - well Colours at Newbury racetrack to be precise. I took my eldest boy along and he bought a bargain from the bring and buy, 42 figures for a fiver. Most were ok, some were painted but he was happy. Well he is 7!
I got my self some frostgrave rules and figures and a few other little bits.

The show was busy at first but the afternoon was a bit quieter and easier to get around. I enjoyed the day and glad the show was back on the calendar.

More AWI French

Laekend I finished this French regiment - Saintonage and thought it was time I posted a picture or two of them.
The regiment has figures from the following Peter Pig AWI packs:

99. French line marching, 100. French line firing, 101. French command advancing and a couple of figures from 112. French wounded. The flag was from Revo and dulled down with a little wash and some citadel technical Lahmian Medium. Next time I use a Revo flag I will pace it on a piece of thin card to give it a bit strength.

As the weather's been loudly this bank holiday weekend I've cracked on with the next unit, some artillery suppport. Finished painting them yesterday but I don't know if I forgot or if I was still not quite recovered from the village beer festival the day before but I sprayed  varnished them and it was raining outside. Result some of the figures were a dull grey mess. Out came the paintbrushes and brief spell later they were looking ok (well at least until I take a picture).

Thanks for having a look see and for those in the UK hope you all had a good bank holiday.

Might be the boost I need.

The last few months have been quite unproductive on the painting front but last week my elder boy said 'Dad them orcs you got me can you paint a few for me?' So he chose 3 and here they are. I'm not sure of any details apart from being orcs and plastic.
I might be doing some more soon.

AWI French

Another quiet month on the painting front but not totally unproductive.
This group of French is painted up as the chasseurs from the Saintonage regiment. The regiment took part in the siege of Yorktown in 1781.

These are Peter Pig figures from their AWI range Packs 102 - French flank chasseurs advancing and 103 French chasseurs command.

Maybe next month will be more productive but I won't be holding my breath !

Thanks for for stopping by.

A new project

There's not been much activity on the hobby or blog front over the last month or so with this and that and baby sitting duties. Even so I managed to get this new project underway. Peter Pig do a lovely range of AWI figures and I've been collecting them for a few years now. When the French came out I had the motivation to get started on the project.

I decided on painting up the first batch as the Guadeloupe Regiment (Packs 109 - French colonial advancing & 110 - French colonial command). These are based up for Peter Pigs Washington's Army rules.

I couldn't find any info on the Guadeloupe drummers jacket so painted it as a standard French drummer - intending to repaint as and when details are found.

I went a bit OTT with the grass tufts on these bases but on the next regiment I'll do more static grass and less tufts.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

Ion Age Habitation Geo Shelter

Sorry for the lack of posts for this month but family life and decorating have all got in the way of my hobby. I have been getting a little paint time in on a new project which is progressing  on the slow side. I might have something to show in a couple of weeks. Regimental colours and facing's are fun to do on 15MMS. Lol

But back to the subject of the post. Below is a picture of the remaining 3 GEO Shelters - we have a laboratory, a defensive pod and a storage unit. The quality of the picture is not so good but this has been taken with a new tablet and I'm still learning how to use it. Some good features on the camera so I'm hoping to improve on this.

As usual thanks for taking the time to look.

Ion Age Habitation Geo Shelter

I picked up these Geo Shelters (as well as another 3 variants) from Ion Age when they came out a few months back. They were nice resin models with only one issue really - the undersides were a little uneven. After cleaning they were undercoated with halfords grey primer and then airbrushed with Vallejo brown sand and Iraqi sand, washed with GW agrax earthshade and a few details picked out.

Some NSL troops for scale

Hopefully I'll have the other 3 finished and photographed next weekend.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

NSL Armour

The NSL troops are finally finished and they need some armour support. I chose two different types for some variety. I decided to airbrush both of these and I m quite happy with the end result even though I haven't used an airbrush in about eight years and the 25 year old compressor still worked fine.

First up is an 8 legged walker MBT with a big gun! The kit comes with three gun options.

The second vehicle is a Cougar Main Battle Tank (tracked) and again it came with three gun options - not sure what gun I've gone with but I like the look of it.

And here's a picture of the two side-by-side.
The only issue I have is with the ariels. I used thin wire but they've kinked to easy. Next time I'll either go for a thicker wire or melt a plastic sprue.

Thanks for taking a look

NSL "PKaZ" Powered Armour Troops Heavy Support Weapons & Hand Weapons

I took a couple of days off at the beginning of the week to get over the last cold that was hanging on and to catch up on some sleep, I returned to work on Wednesday worse than I felt on Sunday. The kids had bought some nasty bug home from school again and all I felt like doing this week was photographing the last troops for the NSL.

   Hand Weapons

Heavy Support Weapons

 The whole team

Hope to have a couple of armoured vehicles on here in the next couple of days - cold permitting.
Take care.

NSL "PKaZ" Powered Armour Troops pack C: Command and Missile

It's been a few weeks since I last posted some finish.ed miniatures  - these Powered Armour Troops have been painted for most of that time and I just didn't get round to posting them. This pack contains figures 3 x Command and 3 x Missile troopers.

A show and a sad day

On Sunday I took the eldest boy to WMMS for some R&R This was my first visit to the show and mightily impressed I was. A good size show with plenty of traders and some lovely games. We even had a dabble with the Peter Pig PBI game and after two turns my 6 year olds dice rolling was putting me to shame and his Russians were taking down my Germans.
We both had a nice time and came away with a few buys.
A show to keep in mind for next year though if truth be told I only went there as I forgot the date of the Overlord show and only checked the web the day after it was on !doh

Here's a pic of my loot.
A box of 5 x 15mm Marders (and variants) from the Plastic Soldier Company, the new version of Peter Pig's PBI rules and Company Architect book and 14 packs of Peter Pigs AWI French infantry.

And on sadder note an author who has brought me so much joy in his alternate Disc World has taken Death's hand - RIP Sir Terry Pratchett

NSL Panzergrenadier Grenade Launcher teams

Below are my latest addition to the near complete (infantry wise) NSL.
I need to look for some armour support and still have the 15% off voucher from Ground Zero Games with a week or so before it runs out. I'm a more traditional tank man, ww2 types etc and find it hard to get enthusiastic about futuristic sloped armour and grav/hover versions though GZG do a Cougar MBT with  3 gun options which is viable and there are also  some rather nice wheeled vehicles.

As ever thanks for taking the time to look.
