On Wednesday I managed to start painting this chap from Great Escape Games. Tex Miller is a Sheriff character and I painted the majority of the figure with contrast/speed paints as I didn't know how much painting I could do. GW contrast darkoath flesh is a little pale for me so I'm try the speed paints version. </p><p>I'm reasonably happy with the finish though the base is still to be done.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgADaeycWeHuRc023x3U0eHmNUCkD9BW4-e2DtZtA72kUoEHbpkX3vfqcNFETyrLnJnCl3BIVcTWuSRBQxZS3PR1w-xAAevgN7iuT4K5k1uiaBWgphvg9bMbQU4C0w6M7qCvaCyg8gr72LHWtEfGPbVRXa03lPRw9RpzHq4ZoZqRJzdhWPhWcUoM9gG/s4000/IMG_20220430_190632.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgADaeycWeHuRc023x3U0eHmNUCkD9BW4-e2DtZtA72kUoEHbpkX3vfqcNFETyrLnJnCl3BIVcTWuSRBQxZS3PR1w-xAAevgN7iuT4K5k1uiaBWgphvg9bMbQU4C0w6M7qCvaCyg8gr72LHWtEfGPbVRXa03lPRw9RpzHq4ZoZqRJzdhWPhWcUoM9gG/s320/IMG_20220430_190632.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p>Take care. </p>Dannochttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14205319931299064812noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6886757527078352458.post-42480168370176495372022-04-23T17:12:00.001+01:002022-04-23T21:56:56.229+01:00Wings of Glory <div> Thursday might at the club was Wings of Glory campaign night.</div><div><br /></div><div>Campaign nights usually involves a & b flights from both the central powers and the Entente fighting out the same mission on two tables. Well the last month has wizzed by but I have not been idle.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The club has proved a great experience with friendly guys and some great games. I've had ago at Congo, Saga, 7TV, Fog and Blood Red Skies. I also enjoyed watching a game of Bolt Action and should be taking my Chindits along in a few weeks for an outing. It should be a good game with 2 players a side.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As for Fog I took along the finished units that I had been busy painting up recently (and the remainder (10 chariots)) were loaned by loan by one of the other members.<br />
<br />
The Neo-Assyrians has been one of those projects that has been on the go for a number of years. As they have fought a battle now thought I'd share a few photos of them over the next week or so.<br />
<br />
First up are some tribal levies<br />

A couple of Thursdays ago I went along late in the evening to Becconsfield to find out about a reasonably local wargames club. The Wycombe Warband. I spoke to a few guys and they seemed a friendly bunch. 3 of them were having a game of Congo which seemed like a fun game. There was also another skirmish game or two on the go along with some sort of space craft game. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This week I went back and joined in a game of Congo. I had a great time even though my dice rolling was horrendous (nothing changes). There were a lot more games being played that night, with games of Saga, Bolt Action and a starwars game with some amazing scenery along with a couple of others I didn't really see.<br />
At the end of the evening I paid my subs and for the first time in 20 years have joined a wargaming club. </div>

I'm not sure of the make but at the time I was buying a few bits of freicorps and minifigs so it could be either of them though Friecorps would probably edge it.</div>

I was born under one wandering star. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Lee Marvin gave the idea to paint my wagon a different colour to plain brown and a quick look on Google showed me a few examples of blue wagons.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The blue is PeterPigs pack 92 settlers wagon, recently bought and the brown is peterPigs pack 65 supply wagon, though this was bought and painted more than 20 years ago.</div>

Just a quick post to show I'm still about and painting. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Cattlemen are completed just need me to take some pictures and I'm progressing with two new projects and hope to have a few elements of both completed and photographed in early may. Though I think my idea of starting two projects simultaneously was a bit misguided. </div>

The weather's turned wet and horrible since Monday but luckily I did manage to take a few pictures on that day.<br />
The chuck wagon is pack 91 from PeterPigs wild west Cattlemen range. The body of the chuck wagon is resin and all other parts white metal. The model went together nicely. Originally I was going to paint the wood part of the body in wood brown but after having a peruse on the internet I found a couple of green examples which I thought looked rather good.<br />

The eagle eyed amoungst you will have noticed the basing has changed. When it came to basing these I decided that the sandy base that I have done for the rest of the range didn't seem right for these chaps. Cattle eat grass so bases should be more green/brown than sand.<br />
What it does mean is that I need to go back and re-do the basing for the rest of these cattlemen. That should keep me busy.<br />

I was planning to go to overlord in Abington today , my first war show of the year but yesterday I found out that the weather had taken its toll and the show was cancelled. I always enjoy it as it's a small but but friendly show where I can pick up a few bits and pieces and spend a good half day perusing.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The next show I could well attend would have been the wmms in a couple of weeks but my two young lads are doing a walk for the cubs and Beavers and I've being been roped in to do the walk as well. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

The latest pack of cattlemen finished are pack 88 mounted cattlemen with Pistols.<br />

The horses for both this pack and the following pack 89 were all sprayed together using Mournfang Brown from games Workshop. Different shades of washes and mixtures were applied to give a variation of colour which is not so visible in the pics.<br />

Hoping to spend a couple of hours outside in the painting den today and get the next batch of cattlemen finished. Then on to a couple of wagons and a stagecoach.<br />

Thanks for dropping by.</div>

February has been a relatively productive month with a least an hour most evenings and a few hours over the weekends painting so a few bits have been progressing along nicely. Well until last night that is, when i went out to my painting den in the garage and froze my knackers off. The heater made no dent in the cold in the room or the cold in my body. I came in after about half an hour and promptly went to bed. It was nice and warm in there. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As to my painting the Cattlemen are near to completion and a few other areas are having some time spent on them. So hopefully something different next month.<br />
<br />
This little offering are from PeterPigs pack 87, cattlemen foot rifles.<br />

Oh dear - just 5 minutes after posting my last blog I've just seen the new Northstar Miniatures plastic oathmark elves and humans. Now they look nice, I did think of getting both the Dwarves and orc sets but managed to resit but the two new packs I think will break my resistance. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And then there are the new antediluvian miniatures fantasy explorers / conquistadors and they look very nice too.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What is a man to do with all this temptation. </div>

Over the past couple of weeks I've been contemplating my plan for this year's painting. At the moment I'm definitely going to try and reduce the lead and plastic mountain. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm going to continue with the 15mm wild west this year, finishing off the Indians I started in the 90's. I've also got a number buildings from the range to paint up along with a train.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Along with this on-going project I'm going to try and complete another of my projects - the 15mm Assyrians. This has been plodding on for about 6 years now but I feel if I base up the completed figures it might motivate me to finish off the army with the chariots and a few extra units.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
On top of that I have a number of on going projects I would love to get on with but it will probably be some more 15mm ww2 to finish off the year.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As to new stuff - apart from a few bits for the wild west, like a train station, I'll try to keep the purchasing down to paints and accessories and a few little bits. But you know us wargamers, never say never.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway to the painted stuff, i've painted up some more PeterPig cattlemen, these are pack 86 foot pistols. Nice figures with three different sculpts in each pack of eight figures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I would like to say things are slowing down in the run up to Christmas but work is manic so I'm looking forward to a few days off.</div>

Mongo Larry<br />
<br />
The rest of the cattlemen are coming along nicely with the foot elements near completion and 40 horses nearly finished and the riders undercoated and ready to paint. Hope to have more pictures before Christmas.<br />
<br />
Ho ho ho</div>

Now it's back to Peter pig's wild west figures and I'm working my way (slowly) through the Cattlemen. The first completed figures are two character packs, pack 83 Buffalo Bruce and pack 84. Old Gabby. They are nice figures with a mounted, foot and dead option in each pack.</div>

There are another two character packs finished just need to take a pic along with two different foot groups that are both near to completion. I have also prepared 40 horses for the mounted elements. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With separate riders and horses do people paint them separate or glue the riders on first? I always do them separately but wondered it's easier to do them together.</div>

I've read a number of favourable reviews and reports on On One Hour Wargames and on Friday night I was looking on Amazon and and said to the wife if we've got any money left, from all the overtime I'm doing, when we get paid could you order me one. What a girl she went on to Amazon and with her prime account ordered me one there and then. It was a bit late for the next day delivery so I was expecting it tomorrow. But this morning it was delivered.</div>

The French commander and generals are to be the last of my bases for the French contingent of my AWI project. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After finishing the painting a couple of weeks ago I brushed on my preferred Windsor and Newton's galleria mat varnish. When dried the blue jackets had a gloss sheen to them and then, in a moment of madness, I picked up an old can of mat spray varnish and sprayed them. They greyed. I wanted to bang my head against the wall. I took the can out into the garden along with my air rifle and removed the temptation from my grasp. A few touch ups and some more brush on varnish and they are suitable.<br />

Yesterday I made the shortish trip to Reading for the Warfare show. I left at 9.10 and was there in 35 minutes. The drive was pleasurable through the country lanes of south Oxfordshire and Berkshire. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I arrived I parked easily and sat for 5 minutes or so before finding the parking pay machines. Ye god's what a rigmarole. There were only two machines by reception, one of which was not working, and a tablet type unit which the operator was having a few issues with. A long queue was forming before me and was a lot longer by the time I got in. But after that the show was it's usual pleasant self. There were some great looking games on show and a great mix of traders. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I managed to spend 5 hours there and as usual enjoyed my day out. The only downside really was the fact that I didn't sell the two FOW box sets I took to the bring and buy. eBay for those then.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As for the loot - a bit of a mix with no big spends. Just a lot of bits and pieces.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCowNfSTU-tMmqEgUgi4pUsFbYalYNwqXiscBOKI3vilkgzZ63L8LLtnb6ukmv0h8zQ0W6bt8TCQ3kQQHmJkJ_sr33LvUxPkOEKoX_SQ-eWLc0OFaDlo40PSIan4WTrfLg1mUilEfglc8/s1600/IMG_20171119_170720.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCowNfSTU-tMmqEgUgi4pUsFbYalYNwqXiscBOKI3vilkgzZ63L8LLtnb6ukmv0h8zQ0W6bt8TCQ3kQQHmJkJ_sr33LvUxPkOEKoX_SQ-eWLc0OFaDlo40PSIan4WTrfLg1mUilEfglc8/s400/IMG_20171119_170720.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
From the top left is a reaper bones Dragon Tortoise. A PSC box of 15mm Stuart Honeys. A pack of 2 warbases 15mm ore tanks . Below that are various accessories, MDF bases ,tufts and some paints. Also is a 15mm neo Assyrian chariot from Magister Militum (hopefully that'll complete the army) and a few packs of GZG Kra'Vaks, all new releases. Finally there is an MDF 20mm container kit from Blotz. Not sure on the scale as I wanted it for 15mm sci-fi. I see how it compares when it's made up.<br />
<br />
I've been painting on and off for the past month on a couple of projects but haven't taken any pics. As I'm off this week I hope to catch up with that and put a few posts on here.<br />
<br />
Thanks for stopping by.</div>

The latest and last French AWI regiment I think I will paint is the the Royal Deux-Ponts Regiment.<br />
<br />
This regiment was part of the French expeditionary force sent to help the Americans in their fight for independence. The regiment took part in the fighting at Yorktown.<br />
<br />
The figures are PeterPig and are from packs 99 French line marching and 100 French line firing. The command base was from pack 101 French command advancing with the addition of a wounded figure from pack 112 French wounded. <br />

<br />
<br />
I've added the next pic as the blue seems to be a lot lighter in the first pic than in the second, maybe a trick of the light.<br />

<br />
Now on with the generals. </div>

Well in the end I primed the control tower with Windsor and Newton's varnish (brushed on) and gave it a spray coat of gey car primer. This was then highlighted and then dirtied using Cars weathering powders.</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I haven't decided on the base so this has been left plain - I need to consider the base for all the bits first.<br />
<br />
As usual thanks for dropping by.</div>
